Successful completion of Chinese Language Arts 8, teacher recommendation and/or placement test. Placement in the Honors section of this course requires: Completion of all assigned honors work; Teacher recommendation based on Q1 performance and grade (minimum B+ and above). Honors placement is finalized after Q1.
This course is tailored for native or near-native Chinese speakers and provides an introduction to language and literature, emphasizing the skills needed for success in the IB Language A program. Students will develop advanced writing, reading, listening, and speaking abilities through the exploration of a diverse range of texts, including novels, poetry, articles, and historical works. The course focuses on enhancing vocabulary, grammatical accuracy, and analytical skills. Major assignments include literary analysis essays, creative writing projects, and oral presentations. Students pursuing Honors credit are required to complete additional assignments and will be assessed using an Honors-specific rubric.
