AP Economics introduces students to the principles that govern an economic system as a whole, with emphasis on national income, price-level determination, economic performance measures, the financial sector, stabilization policies, economic growth, and international economics. Students learn to interpret and analyze graphs, charts, and data to explain key economic concepts and evaluate policy decisions. The course begins with the essential economic theory needed to engage with macroeconomic topics; no prior study of economics is required, though students should be comfortable with advanced high school–level reading, basic mathematics, and graphing skills. While analytical skills overlap with AP Microeconomics, this course focuses on the broader, system-wide forces that shape economies. Students will have the option to sit for the AP Macroeconomics Exam at the end of the course.
All assessments follow AP guidelines, including a quantitative component.
