Movement for Transitions
With infants, Follow their lead, do what interests them. If a baby is uninterested in something, narrate that you notice they don’t want to do that activity, and move onto the next one. For example, “I see that you’re throwing the book on the ground — it looks like you don’t want to read anymore. Let’s try walking outside!”
With Toddlers, Talk about what you’re doing and thinking as you transition between activities at home: “Mommy is getting ready to work on my computer. I’ll set up my desk, my chair and get a snack. Do you want a snack too while you color?”
