With Infants, add math words like one, two, more, and all gone as you respond to what they say and do: During play time, you might start out by saying, “It’s play time, let’s get two blocks. One. Two.” Notice if your baby is reaching for the blocks, and comment on what they do: “You picked up one block! Now there is only one block left. Do you want more?"
With toddlers, add math words like big, small, full, empty, and count from one to five. Respond to what they look at, do, and say: You have one toy on the floor. Would you like more toys? Let's count them, one, two, three toys! This toy is big and this one is smaller."
