With infants, comment on what they’re doing or looking at: When you’re on a walk with an infant, notice what interests them. You can just talk about what they’re doing. For example: ”You’re gurgling and waving your arms! Are you excited to be on a walk?” Or, ask about what they’re seeing. For example, ”Where is the squirrel going? Should we go left or right at the stop sign?”
With toddlers, Name things that they’re interested in: Yard play adventures with toddlers are an excellent opportunity to become explorers. As a toddler pretends to seek out new exciting discoveries, name all the things that they encounter: “You found a small black ant! Did you know that ants are really strong?"
