School Age Childcare and Carer Consultation 2023

Dear Parents and Carers,

Aberdeen City Council – School Age Childcare Parent and Carer Consultation 2023

Part 8 of the Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014 requires Local Authorities to consult regularly with parents about the provision of day care. Following our recent Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) Parent and Carer Consultation 2023, Aberdeen City Council is now carrying out an online consultation with parents and carers on School Age Childcare in the city.

Our 2021 consultation was particularly interested to find out about the impact the Covid-19 pandemic had on the use of School Age Childcare. We are now keen to see if access and need for School Age Childcare has changed since the pandemic and are interested to hear from those families who use School Age Childcare as well as those who do not.

We would be very grateful if parents and carers could complete the consultation, which should take no longer than 5-10 minutes. It can be completed online using the link below:

https://consultation.aberdeencity.gov.uk/education-and-childrens-services/aberdeen-city-council-school-age-childcare-consult

All answers are confidential and anonymous.  The information gathered will be used by Aberdeen City Council to inform our ongoing support, development and delivery of School Age Childcare locally and will inform future policy.

The closing date for completing the survey is Sunday 7th January 2024.

Public Consultation on Future Spending

Aberdeen City Council has launched a public consultation that will help shape the 2024/25 Budget and future spending plans. The feedback will be shared with all Elected Members to help them decide how to allocate funds for running services.

Phase 1 – which will run until the end of July – invites you to identify what they think should be the council’s spending priorities. Phase 2 will give you the chance to explore detailed options for producing a balanced budget, including finding necessary savings.

We’re very keen to capture the views of young people, so it would be wonderful if you could encourage your children to complete the consultation. If they are under 16, they should be supervised while doing so.

Consultation Open: Revised Children's Services Strategic Plan 2023-26

CONSULTATION OPEN: REVISED CHILDREN’S SERVICES STRATEGIC PLAN 2023-26

What we are consulting on?

The Children’s Services Board is consulting on the draft revised Children’s Services Strategic Plan 2023-26 which sets out the priorities we have identified to help improve outcomes for children, young people and their families in Aberdeen.

In November 2022, the Children’s Services Board gathered and analysed data from across all children and family services, as well as feedback from children and young people and their families to develop a children and young people’s population needs assessment.  This has then been used to help Board members identify current and future need for the child population as a whole, for more vulnerable groups within this and also by age and stage.

The Board have used the population needs assessment, along with the direction of travel outlined in The Promise, the cultural transformation required to deliver against the UNCRC and anticipated legislation such as the anticipated Care and Justice Bill and education reform agenda to inform the revised draft Children’s Services Plan 2023-26.

We’d like to hear your views on our draft Plan

The draft Children’s Services Plan 2023-26 is now open for consultation until 12 March 2023. The consultation gives all citizens the opportunity to comment on the draft Plan before it is considered by the Community Planning Aberdeen Board on 19 April 2023.

Please tell us your view and whether we’re focusing on the right priorities by accessing the consultation at the link below:

https://consultation.aberdeencity.gov.uk/customer/draft-revised-childrens-services-strategic-plan-2/

The views of our children and young people are vital to informing the Plan and ensuring that our priorities are the right ones. To assist with engagement, we have developed a children and young people’s version of the Plan, along with a MS Form to capture their views. Children and Young People can complete the form individually, or as part of a group.

If you have any queries or would like to give us feedback, please use the comments boxes in the link or email us at communityplanning@aberdeencity.gov.uk

Children's Mental Health Week             06-10.02.2023

Dress to Express Day – Friday 10th February 2023

Next week Abbotswell School will be taking part in Children’s Mental Health Week and throughout the week, we will be enjoying a range of activities to promote the importance of looking after our mental health. As part of this, we will be taking part in Dress to Express Day on Friday 10th February 2023. We would like to invite all children and staff to come to school that day dressed in a way which expresses something about themselves.  It could be as simple as wearing a favourite colour, a favourite outfit or maybe something connected with a favourite hobby or interest.  It might even be designing something or coming in fancy dress! We can’t wait to see everyone dressing to express – be proud of who you are!

Play-based Learning in the Early Stages

We are on a journey to improve the play-based approach of learning for the children in the Early Stages. There is huge amount of research and information to show that this is beneficial to the levels of motivation and engagement.

We are working alongside an experienced practitioner, Emma Freeman, funded by our ASG.

Emma has supported both our P1 and P1/2 teacher to modify the layout of the two classrooms and has begun to support the planning and implementation of this approach.

This is a huge amount of change and work that is being undertaken and we hope that as an ASG we will all collaboratively improve the outcomes for our learners with this investment.
