Well done to our star of the week for having a positive attitude towards learning!
Counting - I can count in 20s
A working example (progression for counting in 20s):The Same Principles Apply For 10s, 50s, and 250s
Linking Swapping the Units to counting shows children that we can swap ‘the thing’ that we are counting from ones to tens. So now instead of having, ‘2 ones, 4 ones, 6 ones, 8 ones...’ etc., we have, , ‘2 tens, 4 tens, 6 tens, 8 tens...’. Inputting this activity allows us to teach for understanding before we get children to say the names of those amounts more efficiently, i.e., ‘20, 40, 60, 80...’
At this point the children are now counting in 20s.
The same progressive pathway is also used to coach the children to count in 10s, 50s, and 250s.
The lines of progression we can take are:
larger numbers (e.g. 420, 440, 460, 480, 500, 520...)
counting backwards (e.g. 520, 500, 480, 460, 440, 420...)
changing ‘the thing’ to a unit of measure (e.g. 420g, 440g, 460g, 480g, 500g, 520g...)
Learn its - 3x table
Its nothing new - Halving with Pim
I know half of 300, 500, 700, 900
Remember To:
learn that half of 300 is 150, 500 is 250, 700 is 350, 900 is 450
Calculations - Division
I can use a Tables Fact to find a division fact (with remainders) (2, 3, 4, 5x tables)
Remember To:
use your Learn Its and Fact Families to give the answer
say the remainder

Our fantastic Victorian wallpapers, We are so proud of them and the hard work and determination that went into them!
Week 7, we have really enjoyed our art lessons this week, we were creating our own Victorian wallpapers with silhouettes and this was incorporating our maths topic of patterns!
We have been looking at different painting techniques, mixing paint and using the specific artistic language when creating our art.
I can create and present work using the visual elements of line, shape, form, colour, tone, pattern and texture. EXA 1-03a
I can understand the language of painting (e.g. translucent, opaque).
I can experiment with different types of paint.
I can name warm, cool and complementary colours then mix them.
We have been looking at the life cycle of a plant alongside food chains in science this term.
I can explore examples of food chains and show an appreciation of how animals and plants depend on each other for food.
I can sequence and describe food chains showing relationships between the sun, plants and animals for energy e.g. using a flowchart, pyramid etc.
I can help to design experiments to find out what plants need in order to grow and develop. I can observe and record my findings and from what I have learned. I can grow healthy plants in school. SCN 1-03a
I can design an experiment to find out what plants need to grow (including germination)and develop healthily.
I can record and present my findings in a clear way.
I can draw conclusions and apply my knowledge/findings to grow healthy plants.
We have been looking at different adjectives, nouns and verbs today and throughout the week we are going to try use and identify these within our daily writing! We have enjoyed identifying what they are and what falls under each category!

Our week 4 highlights! We have had a fantastic week and are looking forward to our long weekend!
We have been learning about primary and secondary colours and using these to create our art! We started by using crayons to complete our circles then we moved on to painting and mixing paint to create colours!
We have been learning all about the life cycle of a plant alongside our buddy class, we made our own diagrams to highlight the main life stages a plant goes through! We then planted our own plants with our buddies and we are so excited to watch them grow!

Our week 4 highlights! Lots of enjoyment from art this week where we were mixing colours and expressing ourselves through our art! Lots of fun at PE with learning ball skills using their feet!
We had so much fun today exploring 2d shapes and 3d objects through play-based learning! we had four different stations all focussing on slightly different success criteria! We explored tessellation, building shapes, categorising shapes and describing shapes using vocab such as faces, vertices, edges and sides!
Our term 1 BEAT THAT question strategies! Each week the numbers in the questions will change, but the strategies stay the same! We hope to complete all 10 questions using abridged or brain only by the end of term 2!

Well done to our vice pupil council rep!
Well done to our star of the week for being enthusiastic about learning and aiming high to hit her writing target!
Our week 3 highlights! We have been loving our maths and writing this week and we are already seeing improvements in our work! It has been lovely doing our pupil council talks
We have been practising our diacritical marking skills which we will complete every Tuesday to try and help us with our spelling words for the week!

Well done to our Star of the week for always showing our Meerkat values especially motivation when completing jobs!
Buddy Time fun! We enjoyed getting to know our buddies this week and can't wait to see what we can do with them this year!
Our favourite things in Week 2 of Primary 4 - We reflected on what we had learned, what our favourite thing to learn was and why! A clear favourite was starting to learn our 3x table which is our Learn Its in big maths for the whole of term 1!
We have loved being in our new classroom and getting to know our new surroundings! We have lots of different resources to play with during fun 31 time and we have been exploring these over the past 2 weeks!
We had so much fun at our first RADS session, we are working with Craig this year! We worked on our teamwork skills and our expectations in RADS this year!
We had some Circle Time with our new class mascot, our first task was to give him a name and after a class vote he has been called Timmy. We then shared our highlights from week one and went on to discuss what we would like to improve on in Primary 4! We have had a fantastic first week and I am so excited for our first term in P4!
Well done to our star of the week for having a positive and helpful attitude throughout the week!
Literacy
We will focus on sentence structure and openers in term 1. We will follow the writing scheme 'CYPIC' where the children will write 3 times a week for 20 minutes a day and 5 minutes editing time.
Children will get one spelling sound a week and we will follow our spelling carousel which includes, introducing the sound, diacritical marking, elkonin boxes, silly sentences and a test on a Friday.
We will continue to follow the reflective reading scheme and do two long reads (book related comprehension) a week and one short read (comprehension relating to a topic, interest or anything else) a week.
Numeracy
We will focus on 2D and 3D shape, patterns and relationships and Maths Week Scotland will be from 22nd - 28th September.
Children will be looking at vocab such as, sides, faces, vertices and edges. Naming more complex shapes and looking at angles in 2D shapes.
We will be looking at patterns and relationships, with a specific focus on number patterns. With a mix of looking at ready created ones, finding out what the pattern is, continuing it on and making our own number patterns.
HWB
We will focus on mental health and wellbeing and our emotions.
We have already introduced our emotional check-in which children complete every morning and can change throughout the day.
We will also have a focus on our mental health, ways we can help improve our mental health, what mental health is and much more!
We will have RADS every Tuesday and P.E with Mrs Forbes every Wednesday.
Science
We will be looking at Biodiversity and
Interdependence.
This will include looking at things such as -
Living vs non living things.
Growing plants - what they need, how to look after them, recording daily what they are doing, how much it grows, weather impacts.
Vocab - mammal, amphibian, insect, bird, reptile
Food chains.
Energy sources
and sustainability
Types of energy that we get from different energy sources, for example, light, sound, heat and electrical.
Different energy sources, sun, food, fuel, wind and waves, to discuss the importance of different types of energy for everyday life and survival.
Cross Curricular
Our first topic this term is Caring Citizens which gives us an opportunity to get to know each other, our learning styles, needs, abilities, work on friendship making and building and creating structures, routines and our UNCRC Class Charters.
We will then move onto Historical where we will be looking at victorians!
