Snow day - 9/1/26

For your literacy challenge today, can you please write a few paragraphs describing what you can see from your house/one of your windows/outside your house? 

Remember to use adjectives and to use punctuation, especially capitals and full stops. 

For spelling, you can either ask a family member to give you a spelling test, see how many you get right! Or you can use the spelling activity grid below and pick 2 options to practice your words.

• If you'd like to try a drawing challenge, why not pick one of the Draw with Rob video tutorials below. You can post a photo of your finished work or bring it in to school next week to show everyone!

Numeracy

There are a few different options for maths today. 

1-Sumdog challenges

2-Topmarks games- https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/paint-the-squares   

3- If you didn't get a chance to look at the maths work posted in the last few days, you can have a try of some of those activities. 

4- New challenge for today- Measuring Hunt (below) 

Find and Measure Activity-Outdoors (or indoors if it's too slippy or cold!) 

a) Make a list of 5-10 objects that you know you will be able to find, inside or outside today. Write the name of those objects down on paper. 

b)  Estimate (guess) how long you think each is in centimetres (cm) or metres (m). 

c) Measure each object using either a metre stick, ruler or tape measure. Ask a family member to help if you need to! 

d) Bonus questions 

1. What is the longest thing you measured?

2. What is the shortest thing you measured?

3. What is the difference in length between the shortest and longest thing

you measured?

4. Which object had your most accurate estimation?

Literacy

For literacy, there are two activities you can try today. 

1 - Use the spelling activity grid on google classroom and pick 2-3 options to practice your spelling words of the week. 

2- Getting to know you activity (from Miss Hammond) - Draw yourself and write a paragraph telling me about you! You can tell me your favourite colour, animal or subject in school! It would be lovely to find out a bit more about you all even though we are all at home today!

As our new topic is Scotland, we are focusing in on Food and Traditions as well as Farm to Fork.

Can you create a fact-file/poster/slides on some of the traditions we have in Scotland? This can be shared/extended on in our next topic lesson in school.

You can include the following - Highland games, Ceilidh Dancing, Burns Night, Hogmanay, St Andrews Day, Traditional Foods, Clan Tartans and Kilts etc.

Other task - Reading Wise - if you need a reminder of login details then just ask. 

Spelling - Use your words (see below) within sentences. Remember to include the correct and a variety of punctuation, as well as openers to begin your sentences.

Expanding sentences - As our new topic is Scotland, use your knowledge of openers and punctuation to expand on a range of sentences.

1. A Saltire waved above the castle. 

e.g. A blue and white saltire waved proudly in the bracing wind above the historic, stone castle.

2. The haggis was served on a plate.

3. The ferry sailed to the island.

4. Granite buildings line Aberdeen's Union Street.

5. Scottish wildcats are found in the Cairngorms.

Outdoor Learning - Session 2

Today we were very lucky to have snow on our outdoor learning session with Mr Millar. We all had great fun!

We created our Viking Longboats in class. Don't they look great!

Two of our learners challenging themselves today within our time lesson- choosing an analogue time (to a specific minute, rather than o'clock, quarter past, half past or quarter to) and then explaining their workings to the class and discussing the properties shown when their time was set on an analogue clock! Well done!!

Term 2 overview

Autumn Onomatopoeia art work! Fantastic effort P4/5!

This Thursday afternoon, P 4/5 and Miss Main went on an Autumnal walk with our frames to capture the beautiful nature we have in our grounds. We were considering our senses as we explored! We can't wait to create our Autumn writing art piece!

It's the last week of term and here are a few pictures of us using our problem solving skills, to create, using a variety of resources, whilst also enjoying fun 31!

As we reach the end of our science topic (biodiversity and interdependence), our flowers are now ready to take home! We are so excited with the growth and can't wait to see them further develop at home! They are antirrhinum flowers!

As we reach the end of term 1, we have a fantastic Viking display, viking swords to take home, and other crafts demonstrating our knowledge of 3d shape/ NETS!
