The languages curriculum area includes modern languages, classical languages and Scots.
Confidence in knowing other languages and understanding other cultures are 21st century skills for students as they prepare to live and work in a global society.
The Scottish Government is working to ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn a modern language (known as L2) from P1 until the end of the broad general education (S3). This is otherwise known as MLPS 1+2.
Here is a link from Education Scotland which outlines what a child will ideally be able to do if immersed into a second language consistently from P1-P7 https://education.gov.scot/media/uohlrha5/lang1plus2expectedoutcomesp1top7.pdf
