We are learning words with the double letter sounds ff, ll, ss. These words follow the floss rule where a single vowel that makes it's short sound (ah, ih, eh, ohh, uh), we need to double the letter ff, ll, ss and zz.
This week we are working on 6 common words - it'll be a challenge!

Outdoor Learning - 12.11.25
P1/2 really enjoyed their outdoor learning session with Mr Miller.
We started with a really fun game of Wizards, Giants and Dwarves and then we enjoyed playing together.
Some of us worked on sharpening sticks ready for roasting marshmallows in future outdoor learning sessions!

Apple bobbing (with a twist)
Decorating oranges to look like jack - o' - lanterns
Giving a pumpkin crazy hair

Our P2's have been really enjoying Cypic Daily Writing and have been motivated, challenged and successful. Here they are working on their 1.1 Punctuation targets:
I can write at least 2 sentences that have:
A capital letter at the beginning
Finger spaces between words
Full stops at the end of each sentence
Almost all of the children are challenging themselves to go above and beyond their target and our confidence in writing is growing and growing!

This week in class we will recap all of these sounds, work on identifying words beginning with these sounds and revise our letter formation.

P2 - We will continue to developing our blending skills and common word knowledge. We will continue stage 2 spelling and learn the following sounds:
ar, ck, sk, sn, sm, rk, lk, ff, ll, ss, ck, intro to magic 'e'
As a class we will collaboratively focus on invitations, notes/messages, Christmas and Narrative writing !
Numeracy
P1 - We will continue to consolidate our number knowledge to 10. We will begin to introduce addition
P2 - We are developing our subtraction skills within 20 and begin to work with numbers to 100. We will begin to use Sumdog to keep our skills fresh.
Our maths topics are time, estimation and rounding and calculations.
HWB
We will focus on relationships, anti-bullying and relationships, sexual health and parenthood!

We had a go of creating our own interpretation of his work 'The Snail'.

In science we have been learning all about plants. We have learned about how plants live and grow and we have learned about the different parts of plants.
P1s worked on a cutting and sticking task where they had to identify the different parts of a flower and stick them in the correct order.
P2s had to identify and label the different parts of a flower and a tree.
The whole class worked so hard and enjoyed this science topic!

At RADs this week we were developing our football skills. We worked on moving around the gym with the ball under control, using tiny kicks. We also worked on being 'sensational stoppers' and 'standing like a footballer'!

Congratulations to our P2 pupils for having their P1 artworks selected for publication in a book!
In P1 the children drew a self portait and Mrs McLaughlin and Miss Smart sent them to Young Artists. The children received a certificate and some stickers and they have the opportunity for their drawing to be featured in a real book!

We did some singing games with Mr Miller and then got busy exploring the different resources.

Today we welcomed the Primary 1 pupils to our class. They enjoyed having some time to explore the classroom and are looking forward to getting to know their P2 classmates.

As a class we will collaboratively focus on Biographies and Diaries and Narrative writing !
Numeracy
P1 - We will be learning to recognise, use and correctly form numbers within 10. We will also practice counting and using larger numbers.
P2 - We will consolidate our number knowledge within 20, work with number lines to add and subtract and move towards working with larger numbers.
Our maths topics are 2D and 3D shape, patterns and relationships and Maths Week Scotland will be from 22.09.25-28.09.25 where the theme is 'Wild Maths'!

We will focus on mental health and wellbeing and our emotions!
