Week 11

1. I go for a run. The circuit I go on is 3.6 km to the shop. 1.05 km to the park then 4.95 km to the beach where I jog the 600m along the beach on the sand. I then turn around and come back the way I came. How long is my run?

2. The stadium had 4 grandstands. 3 of them held 13800 people each and the last stadium was 1/3 of the size of the others. What is the capacity of the stadium?

3. At a rugby game the stadium was only 75% filled. How many spectators were there?

4. I mix some juice in a jug that hold 1.45 litres. If I fill up my drink bottle which holds 885 mls how much juice is left in the jug?

5. I need to buy soft drinks to sell at the school social. They come in packs of 24.

a) If I buy 12 trays how many have I got to sell?

b) It works out each bottle costs $0.60 so how much does a tray cost?

c) If I sell each bottle for $2 how much profit do I make per tray/total ?

d) What is the ratio of cost to profit?

e) If I sell 80% of the drinks how much profit have I made?

6. BP has lowered the cost of petrol to $2.179 per litre. My car takes 60 litres and I have $130. Can I fill up my car?

Week 10

1. Tim bought a length of timber that was 3.5m long. He needs to make two shelves out of it. When he measured the space where he wants the shelves to go the measurement was 1755mm. Has he got enough timber for the two shelves?

2. A house was originally sold for $360 000. 5 years later it sold for 150% more. What did it sell for?

3. A concert could hold 1280 people. Over a two week period the daily show was filled to capacity. However in the last week it was only 80% full. How many people went to the concert over the 3 weeks.

4. Each ticket sold for $70. How much money did they take in? The ratio of profit to expenses was 2:3 How much profit did they make?

5. Sam has got 24 marbles left after giving 1/2 of what he had to Sue, then 2/3 of what was left to Sione. How many marbles did he originally have?

6. Hine has to decide whether to buy her dress from the shop that is selling it for 6/8 of the original price or from the shop that has a 30% reduction. If the dress originally cost $96 how much does it now cost in each shop?

1. Al gives 2/5 of his marbles to Bev. Bev gives 3/4 of his marbles to Carl. Carl gives 2/7 of these to Dani.

If Dani received 24 marbles, how many did Al have originally?

2. John took all his money out of his bank savings account. He spent $50 on a radio and 3/5 of what remained on gifts. After gifts were purchased, 1/2 of what was left was put back in his checking account, and the remaining $35 was donated to charity.

How much money did John have originally in his savings account?

3. Sandra bought a pizza for her slumber party. Jaime and Maria ate 25% of it. Louisa and Abby ate one-third or 33% of what was left. Chantel and Sammie ate 50% of what was left. Manuela ate two slices. Sandra was left with two slices. How many slices were in the pizza? How many slices did each of the girls eat?

4. 1. Emma is making a quilt. She has 60 patches. Help Emma create a quilt with the following colors:

1. The vet decides how much of a drug to give dogs on the basis of body weight at a

proportional rate. If a 28 kilogram dog gets 364 milligrams for each dose, how much

should a 7 kilogram dog get?

2. If there was a sale at Rebel Sports work out what the prices would be if there was 30% off the boys shoes and 25% off the girls shoes. (Round the prices up to the nearest $ first)
