Lesson 18
LEARNING & TEACHING SEQUENCE
WALT (We are learning to): Use our senses to compare different sorts of bread; understand that different combinations of ingredients produce different results; use different experiences as motivation to write
Teacher Notes/Planning
Unpack what the five senses are. Which of these can we use to compare differences in bread? Introduce the different breads. Have learners take a photo of each and label with the name of each bread. Share some learners photos back via the Apple TV. Unpack as a class words that we can use to describe each bread. Learners to use sight taste, smell and feel to draw comparisons or note differences in the bread. Why do we think they are different? What things would be different? Brainstorm ideas as to why they are different.
Reflection
Learners definitely enjoyed this hands on activity and were very keen to repeat it. The brainstorm of the vocabulary took a while to get through although they contributed some great ideas. Possibly this could have been broken up by discussing some of the vocabulary before they started taking photos. The Explain Everything documentation went well - all learners are very adept at using this app and it was a very easy way for them to document about each piece of bread as they compared it. It was great to see the learners discussing each bread with their peers as they compared them - this level of collaboration was hard to capture on the video recording but I was able to circulate and hear this happening. We could have spent much longer on the writing lesson (completed the next day) but time constraints limited this
