Bouncing Back In Time

When was the first time you have ever heard of basketball. The game of basketball as it is known today was created by Dr. James Naismith in December 1891 in Springfield, Massachusetts. He published 13 rules for the new game. About 58 years later, the NBA and basketball was founded on June 6, 1946 in New York City, NY by Dr. James Naismith. As the Basketball Association of America (BAA). The league adopted the name National Basketball Association in August 3, 1949, after merging with the competing National Basketball League.
On November 1, 1947 during the first game played between the New York Knickerbockers and Toronto Huskies, Ossie Schectman of the Knicks scored the first point ever in the NBA history.
The original 11 teams were: Boston Celtics, Chicago Stags, Cleveland Rebels, Detroit Falcons, New York Knickerbocker, Philadelphia Warriors, Pittsburgh Ironmen, Providence Stream, St Louis Bombers, Toronto Huskies, and Washington Capitals.
In 1946 the NBA player Chuck Connors was the first person ever to break a NBA basketball backboard. When he accomplished breaking the NBA backboard, he was playing for the Boston Celtics.
The first basketball backboard was created in 1893 and they were originally created to stop the fans from interfering. They were also originally made out of chicken wire, but now it is made out glass.
In the 1940s, dunks really weren't a big part of basketball. Bob Kurland was the first ever human to dunk a basketball. He was also the first ever to dunk in a game. When Kurland dunked, he was in college and played for Oklahoma.
The first 13 rules of basketball originally made by Dr.James Naismith :
“1.) The ball may be thrown in any direction with one or both hands.
2.) The ball may be batted in any direction with one or both hands.
3.) A player cannot run with the ball. The player must throw it from the spot which he catches it, allowance to be made who catches the ball when running at a good speed a he tries to stop.
4.) The ball must be held in or between the hands; the arms of the body must not be used for holding.
5.)No shouldering, holding, pushing, tripping, or striking in any way the person of an opponent's shall be allowed; rule by any player shall count as a foul, the second disqualified him until the next goal made, or, if there was evidence intent to injure the person, for the whole of the game, no substitute allowed.
6.) A foul is striking at the ball with the first, violation of rules 3,4 and such as described in rule
7.) If either side makes three consecutive fouls, it shall count a goal for the opponents
8.) A goal shall be made when the ball is thrown or batted from from grounds into the basket and stays there providing those defending the goal do not touch or disturb the goal.
If the ball rests on the edges, and the opponents moves the basket, it shall count as a goal.
9) When the ball goes out of bounds, it shall be thrown into the field of play by the person first touching it. In case of dispute, the umpire shall throw it straight into the field. The thrower
in is allowed five seconds; if he holds it longer, it shall go to the opponent. If any side persists in delaying the game, the umpire shall call a foul on that side.
10)The umpire shall be judged of the men and shall note the fouls and notify the referee when three consecutives fouls have been made. He shall have power to disqualify men according to rule five.
11.)The referee shall be judge of the ball and shall decide when the ball is in play, in bounds, to which side it belongs, and shall keep the time. He shall decide when a goal has been made, and keep account of the goals with any other duties that are usually performed by a referee.
12) The time shall be two 15 minute halves, with five minutes rest between.
13) The side with the most points in the time given is declared the winner. In case of a draw, the game may, by agreement of the captains, be continued until after a goal is made.”

The movie Avengers: Infinity War came out April 27th, 2018, over $200 million has been spent on tickets all over the world. Avengers: Infinity War is considered the best new upcoming movie by plenty of companies such as IMDb Common Sense Media.
On March 16th, 2018, Marvel Studios, the producers of the movie, released a trailer through Youtube and within four hours the trailer had over two million views.
On Rotten Tomatoes, it shows that 99% of people want to see this movie.
People’s favorite superheroes will be in the movie, like Captain America, Iron Man, Black Panther, Thor, Hulk, Spider-Man, Star-Lord, Hawkeye, Black Widow, and Ant-Man.
In this movie, the Avengers battle against their most powerful enemy, Thanos, who is trying to collect all of the six Infinity Stones to use to put his own twist on reality. Throughout the movie they will be trying to stop Thanos from destroying Earth and the whole universe as that is what he plans to do.
The movie is not something that is just arising; it is actually based off the comics written by Jim Starlin and Rob Lim. These comics were written in 2006, but the movie will be straying off topic a little bit. In the comics, Adam Warlock is the main villain, not Thanos, who will be the main character in the movie.
Certain websites have comments from people on what they think. On Common Sense Media one parent says, “If the movie is anything like the comics most Marvel fans will possibly be left heartbroken as some of the main characters may inevitably be killed.”
When Lydia S. was asked what she thought of the movie, and she said, “I think there will be a lot of fighting, and people getting hurt and dying. I will definitely watch the movie. My favorite character is Captain America.”
All in all, Avengers: Infinity Wars is considered to be a good movie for Avenger fans.

The Miracle Season came out on Thursday, April 6th, 2018. This movies rating is PG and stars Helen Hunt who has also played in Twister, Soul Surfer, and Cast Away.
Miracle season has a 88% people liked it rating, people said it was good. A rating higher than 50% is very good and many people have liked it. Miracle Season is about Caroline Found, a girl who is really good at volleyball who helps her team to a state championship. Shortly after the championship, she dies in a car accident. The team she played on is really sad, and they start losing. They think that they will not be able to win without her. The team starts playing in honor Caroline, and they start winning and making their way to the State Championship. They put in a lot of effort to get better after Caroline gets in an accident because she was the best player on the team; she was the leader. If they win 25 games in a row, then they still have a chance on making it to state, and they push and put in more and more effort every single day. They had one last game left, and they won. They were on their way to the championship!
When Delaney G., an eighth grade at Monroeville was asked if she was going to see the movie she said, “I am going with Hannah L.”
This movie gives the viewer an understanding of what happens when people put their mind to something, and work at it every single day, and give themselves a goal and something to play for. The team came up with a quote that they said before every game, “play for Line.” They are referring to the girl named Caroline.
This movie is directed towards families and volleyball players, and anyone that has experienced miracles in their life.
There’s No Play Like It

Which is better- a console or a handheld device? With the Nintendo Switch players don’t have to choose. The Switch is Nintendo’s newest gaming system. It is a mix between a normal console that connects to a TV, a Nintendo DS, and an iPad. This allows players to play at home or on the go.
The Nintendo Switch was released on March 3rd, 2017, and it costs $300 without a game coming with it. To purchase the Switch and a game in one bundle costs $330. The price of most games are between $20 and $60 depending on popularity.
They can go however far away from the dock as they like, which is a charging station and links to the TV. The portable game tablet is the console because it holds the game card or microsd card. A person can download multiple games through the online store. The tablet’s touch screen is 1280 by 720 pixels and is 8 inches by 4.02 inches by 0.55. The tablet also includes speakers, bluetooth technology, LED indicator, accelerometer, gyro sensor, vibration feedback, parental controls, and a built in 525 mAh battery.
Though there are some problems, the screen doesn’t work well outside, its battery life is only two and a half hours to six hours at best, and takes about 3 ½ hours to charge. It's still waiting for more features and expensive accessories. Players can also attach a USB keyboard and headset.
Nintendo has also released many new games for the Switch, like Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, 1-2-Switch, Arms, Splatoon 2, and more. Unlike previous systems, players cannot use older games from previous systems, because the Nintendo Switch is the first of its kind for Nintendo. Players can also play with friends who also have the Nintendo Switch. All they have to do is share friend codes.
“It’s nice because it’s portable and it has a good sized battery,” Said Charles L. a 7th grader in the Junior High at Monroeville.
Eva M. (Brice M.’s sister) a 5th grader at Monroeville, who owns a Nintendo Switch says “I like it a lot, and it’s easier to play than other consoles. I think it’s the next big thing.”
The Nintendo Switch offers a new gaming experience for fans of handheld and console, and just like Nintendo’s slogan, There’s no play like it.
From Four to One

March Madness has finally ended leaving millions with a broken bracket. Villanova Wildcats won the National Championship. The Michigan Wolverines played Villanova for the championship. The final score was 79 to 62.
The final four came down to no.1 Kansas, and no.1 Villanova, and the Cinderella team Loyola-Chicago, who is ranked no.11, against no.3 Michigan.
Villanova easily beat Kansas with a score of 79-95. Jalen Brunson put on a show, along with Eric Paschal. Brunson had 18 pts that game, along with 6 assists, and 2 rebounds. Eric Paschal had a game high 24 pts, and he went 4/5 from 3 point range.
“Jalen Brunson was clearly the MVP [most valuable player] in the game,” said Spencer F.
On the other side of the bracket, Michigan mounted a comeback against Loyola-Chicago, to win by 12 pts. Moritz Wagner showed his skills, giving the Wolverines a boost of 24 pts, 15 rebounds, and three steals. Wagner played 36 out of the 40 minutes that game. Charles Matthews for the Wolverines put down a strong 17 pts, and 3 steals along with it to help the Wolverines get the win.
The final game of the NCAA season came down to the Villanova Wildcats and the Michigan Wolverines.
The Wildcats climbed out of the hole they dug when down 21-14. Villanova came back to end the half with a lead of 38-27.
Mikal Bridges, a senior for the Wildcats said, “We love it that way. We love going out and grinding it out as a defensive team, and keep getting stops. That's the best thing. I'm so proud."
In the second half, Donte DiVincenzo started his 31 pt barrage. This gave Villanova a dominating 20 pt lead. The Wildcats had some other things to worry about though. One being Michigan's 6 foot 11 inches Moritz Wagner, who had 9 pts in the first 5 minutes of the game. The Wildcats defense limited him to only one field goal in the rest of the half.
In the end, Villanova took the victory and the championship with a win of 79-62. Overall, Villanova’s defense played a big role in the victory, and Donte DiVincenzo’s 31 points gave the Wildcats a boost for the win.

Shaq was born March 6, 1972, Shaq is currently 46 years old. Shaquille O’Neal (Shaq) enrolled at Louisiana State University. Shaq first time playing in the NBA was November 6, 1992.
Shaq entered the NBA at seven feet one inch tall and weighing 315 pound. Shaq was one of the heaviest player in the NBA.
Shaq was considered to most people, was one of the most dominant players of all time. He was put in the NBA Hall of Fame in 2016. Shaq was a 15 times All-Star, he was also the 2 times Scoring Champ, and 4 times NBA Champ, 14 all NBA, 3 times all Defensive, 1992- 1993 All Rookie, 3 times AS MVP, 3 times Finals MVP, 1900-00 MVP, and 1992-93 ROY(rookie of the year). There was a lot that he accomplished in the 19 years he had played in the NBA.
Shaq and Shaunie have 4 children: Shaqir O’Neal, Shareef O'Neal, Amirah O'Neal, Me'arah, Shaunie O’Neal, but they are divorced. Later, he got together with Arnetta Yardbourgh and had one child named Taahirah O'Neal.
Shaq now is an actor and is very successful. He is in one car insurance comeral and also he is in a Ice Hot comeral.
Shaq to some people was one of the most dominant players, and hopefully stays that way for years to come.

Donald John Trump was born on June 14, 1946 in New York City. He was born at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in New York. Donald Trump’s parents names were Fred Trump and Mary Anne MacLeod-Trump.
Donald Trump went to college at many different places, He went to New York Military Academy (1964), Kew- Forest School (1964-1966), and Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania (1966-1968).
Before he was President he worked with his father in the real estate business. After college, he helped his father sell apartment complexes in Queens and Brooklyn New York.
Donald Trump also was in a few movies. He played in Home Alone 2 Lost in New York, The Little Rascals, Zoolander, and The Apprentice Reality Show.
From 1983-1990, Donald Trump purchased multiple properties around New York. He paid someone to build the Trump Tower and The Plaza Hotel. Donald Trump also purchased the New Jersey Generals football team.
Donald Trump came out with his first book in 1987. It was called Trump: The Art of the Deal. This book was established in the same year and became a bestseller. The Donald J. Trump Foundation was also established to donate a portion of the profits he makes from his book to give to chariti
es.
Later on, Donald Trump established Trump University. This offers seminars to people who are interested in the real estate business. This university helps people deal with real estate investments. The headquarte
rs are in New York City, and was founded in 2004 and later closed down in 2010, due to illegal business practices.
Overall, Donald Trump had a very eventful life before he became president.
