I, personally, love to read! I want my students to love to read. One way to enlarge their reading opportunities is to offer time in class on most days for AR (Accelerated Reader) reading. Of course, students may also read at home. Each marking period, my students set an AR goal. Most of the books we read in class are AR books and the students go to the library each week and have the opportunity to choose books to read for AR points. At the end of each book, students take an AR test which checks their comprehension of the book they read. At the end of the marking period, I take 2 grades from AR: one for the average percent correct on their tests, and the other showing the percent obtained of their goal.
