Fifth grade is an exciting year in elementary school. We will be reading novels as well as using the reading series. I will teach ELA to all 5th graders, Mr. Lollar will be the math teacher for all 5th graders, and Mrs. Kemp will cover Social Studies and Science. The 5th grade curriculum will be taught at your child's instructional level. My goal is for all my students to be successful.
Homework is a part of 5th grade and will be expected on time. Each Monday, the students will bring home a "Monday Folder". In it will be assignments from the previous week, plus a parent signature sheet. Also in the Monday Folder will be a red PRIDE card which will track behavior as well as late or missing homework. Like the Monday Folder, the PRIDE card will also need a parent signature and to be returned on Wednesday. Students with a "perfect PRIDE card" will be recognized in our classroom at a class meeting each Monday morning. Those students will receive a Starburst and have their name entered into a drawing for a weekly prize. Students will also fill out an agenda each day to keep track of assignments and upcoming tests and projects.
This is what a typical day will look like:
