Shepard Film Festival
The Challenge:
Create an original film. Tell a story by writing, directing, filming and editing your own movie using either iMovie, Final Cut Pro, or your choice of video editing software. Choose from the categories below; Stop Motion Animation, Comedy, Musical, Drama, Action, Documentary, or recreate a scene from your favorite movie or show. Be sure to have completed the Filmmaking 101 worksheet and received your film license before beginning.
STEAM U Challenge Levels:
GREEN CIRCLE (1 PT.)
Use iMovie to create an original video with an original topic.
Only a couple of camera angles are used
Sound is not edited. Sound is simply what was recorded in the scene.
Citations are made but perhaps not completely
Questions are asked throughout the project (such as how to use tripods and cameras, SD cards, how to import and export video files, using youtube - DRL, etc.)
Limited transitions, titles, backgrounds, or other features used. Video looks more like an unedited recording that we are watching.
BLUE CIRCLE (2 PTS.) IN ADDITION TO ALL IN THE GREEN CIRCLE....
Complete the Filmmaking 101 worksheet and get your license to film.
The film tells a story and is an original idea.
Use iMovie, Final Cut Pro or another video editing program to edit your clips.
3-5 different camera angles are used.
Add a soundtrack that involves more than just the sound captured from original film clips.
A transition, a title, a background are all used at some point in the film
Citations are correctly made for any clips, music, etc., used in the film
Teacher help is limited and not about what was learned in the Filmmaking 101 worksheet/videos.

The film is original and innovative meaning that their is a 'moral' to the story you tell. It has an impact on those who watch it.
A script or storyboard is created prior to filming.
A minimum of 6 camera angles are used throughout the film.
Film includes a variety of transitions, titles, backgrounds, and other effects to give the film a well-edited, polished feel. Innovative and advanced editing techniques are included.
Citations for everything are made correctly.
