Combining Innovation & Technology
THE CHALLENGE: Design and create a sticker collection with a theme and purpose. Using Affinity Designer located on the lab computers, design several stickers that have the same theme. Could be travel, happiness, motivational, sports, school, cartoons, whatever interests you and you want to spread the word about. One you have designed the stickers, we will create them using the Cricut cutting machine to create the actual stickers!!
THE DETAILS:
THE CRICUT IS NOT A PRINTER!!! IT WILL NOT PRINT OUT A DRAWING. IT CUTS THE LINES YOU CREATED. IT IS A CUTTING MACHINE!!
Look at examples below to see the type of stickers the Cricut can make.
In Affintiy Designer, create a new document. Any size like Legal letter is fine.
Draw your design using SIMPLE SHAPES. USE ONLY THE PEN TOOL!!. This is the only tool Cricut will recognize your cut lines.
Export each color you want to use on its own layer.
Example: Layer 1 = black outline, Layer 2 = blue shape, Layer 3 = yellow shape.
When finished, hide every layer except one color and export it as an SVG file.
Repeat for each color layer until you have one SVG per color.
Email each .SVG to Mr. Wolfe. Include the measurement of how tall or wide you want it to be.
Open Cricut Design Space and choose New Project.
Click Upload → Upload Image.
Upload your first SVG file (for the first color).
Select the color vinyl you want. Place in the Cricut on the MAT.
Select the size you want your sticker to be cut out at.
Click 'Make'
Let the Cricut cut out your shape.
Weed out each layer from the vinyl sheet.
Repeat and upload each color layer.
Once all layers are stacked, press everything down firmly.
You now have a clean, multi-color vinyl sticker!
This is a how to video for apparel but the beginning and the design section is the same.
