Darien Young Composers performed at the CMEA Conference in Hartford in April 2016

The district-wide YOUNG COMPOSERS concert will be on April 4 at 6:30pm at DHS.

The Music Department of the Darien Public Schools will be sponsoring our 17th annual Darien Young Composers Concert on April 4, 2017 at 6:30 for grades K-5 and 7:30 PM for students in grades 6-12 in the Darien High School auditorium. This program is open to all students currently enrolled in the Darien Public Schools.Please read the guidelines below and speak to your school Music teacher about what is required. We are all looking forward to hearing your music and featuring it on this special concert. Good Luck!!

Guidelines and Rules

  1. All compositions must be primarily student created and notated, but may have the guidance of a music teacher, parent or other knowledgeable music person. For your information and planning, the “Composition Assessment Form” explaining the judging criteria should accompany this form or you can obtain it from your teacher. Please read it carefully.

2. The concert will feature compositions that equally represent students from the Darien Public Schools at the Elementary School, Middle School and High School levels.

3. A DVD, CD or ELECTRONIC FILE of a live recording and a copy of the written representation (see your teacher) of your composition must be submitted to your school music teacher on or before Tuesday, March 14th. A committee will then review the compositions and notify the students who are accepted for the concert performance by the end of that week.

4. All composers must be involved in the final presentation of their composition. Selected participants are expected to be present for the Young Composers Concert on April 4 at either 6:30 (K-5) or 7:30 p.m. (6-12) Specific details will be announced to selected participants after March 13.
