In our first four music classes, here are some of the things that Kindergarten classes have learned in MUSIC:
Hello There echo song
Hello Everyone - 'dorian' hello song
Welcome to Music echo song
Music Has a Steady Beat
Royle School Song
Apples and Bananas - silly song
6 Little Ducks
Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
ABC Song (Alphabet Song)
Weave Me the Sunshine
Happy Birthday
Whisper, Talk, Shout and Sing - song about the various voices we use every day
If You're Happy and You Know It
The Wheels on the Bus
I Can't Wait 'til it's Halloween
Scary Animals
Students have played small percussion instruments, including shape drums, lollipop drums, shekere, triangle, maracas, bongos, sandpaper blocks, and more! They have accompanied songs like Welcome Boys and Girls, Goin' to the Farm, Listen to the Ducks, Old MacDonald, and others. We have worked on concepts of FAST and SLOW in music, as well as finding a steady beat, understanding the difference between the various types of voices (whisper, talk, shout, sing). Students have also 'moved' to music in a movement piece called "Listen and Move."
In music class, we also 'sing' books! Some classes have already 'sung' I Know An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly and/or I Know An Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves.
Without a doubt, the students' favorite song/activity is GRIZZLY BEAR. This is a song that teaches the concepts of 'very quiet' (pianissimo) and 'very loud' (fortissimo), as well as movement through space, cooperative movement, working as a team, and creating 'shapes' in space.
Kindergarten (K-B) just had their very FIRST DAY on the ORFF Instruments (xylophones, metallophones, glockenspiels)!!!
In this video, they have just learned how to play "99 O'Clock" by Jon Madin (from his book, Marimba Music for Little Kids)
