CMEA All-State Honors Chorus

ROYLE SCHOOL may take up to FOUR STUDENTS to the CMEA All-State Elementary Honors Chorus. This is a one-day event in HARTFORD on Friday, April 29th. I will be there all day, as well, and will be the accompanist for the honor chorus.

Our FOUR STUDENTS will be singing the following songs with the All-State Chorus:

AUDITIONS WERE HELD IN DECEMBER.

Students may audition for me before/after school between now and December 4th. I will post a sign-up sheet in my classroom. The audition will consist of:

1. Sing HAIDA alone and in a round. (You will sing your part while someone else sings the other part.)

2. Sing first verse of SHOWBIZ SNOWMAN ("Let's build a snowman in the wintery snow..." etc.)

3. Upon hearing a few notes on the piano, sing them back

CONNECTICUT MUSIC EDUCATORS ASSOCIATION (CMEA) will sponsor its 7th Annual Elementary Honors Choir as part of the CMEA In-Service Conference at the CT Convention Center in Hartford, CT. This is a great opportunity for exemplary choral music students in grades 4-6 from around Connecticut to sing together. THIS IS A ONE-DAY COMMITMENT, but students will need to prepare in advance. Cost to participate: $30 per student. If selected, you will need to send in a check payable to Darien Instrumental Program prior to December 7. Registration fee includes participation, music, lunch, and t-shirt.

The CONDUCTOR will be Cristi Cary Miller! Ms. Miller is highly regarded across the United States as a master teacher, conductor and composer. For a full biography, you can go to Hal Leonard’s website (www.halleonard.com).

Since we can only take FOUR students, I am limiting this opportunity to 5th Graders only. If selected, students will need to learn the music before going to Hartford. I will provide rehearsal tracks and a few extra morning rehearsals to help everyone prepare. Concert dress will be: tan pants, white sneakers, and the festival t-shirt, which students will receive upon arrival in Hartford.

I will be with the students all day, but since it's NOT a school "field trip," parents will need to provide transportation for their own children. (Carpooling is possible.)
