On Tuesday, September 29th, 2015, we begin our second year of offering our BUILDING MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS after-school class! This is going to be an awesome class this year. We are looking forward to building shakers, rain sticks, pan pipes, drums, and possibly even a xylophone! Take a peek at pictures below from last year to see the awesome fun our students had making their own instruments!

2014-2015:
The Fall of 2014 brings our first-ever after-school class in BUILDING MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS! Students meet in the music portable on TUESDAYS from 3:10-4:10pm to build a variety of instruments. Students will be building everything from maracas to shakers and guitars to shekeres!
Here is a photo from October 14. We have started building GUITARS in our after-school class. Our maracas are 'in progress' (pictures to follow), having had two or three coats of papier mache already. We will start painting the maracas on October 21. Students should bring an appropriate shirt for the painting activities on that day. We will meet in the Art Room instead of the music portable for our painting project!
We had a change of plans for October 21, when we met in the cafeteria to work on our guitars. We will meet in the cafeteria again next week, October 28, to finish the guitars and paint the maracas, as time permits. There are some more photos at the bottom of this page of the students "stringing" their guitars. Tying knots in rubber bands is quite the fun!
We have started to build GUITARS!
Here are some photos from WEEK 1! We had a LOT OF FUN and made a lot of shakers. Students used plastic cups and aluminum cans to create their shakers. They used a variety of paper, colored tape & stickers to decorate the outside. We filled the shakers with rice, lentils and/or paperclips.
