Q. What do students learn in music classes at Royle School?
A.
Students sing, dance, play ‘Orff’ instruments (xylophone, metallophone, glockenspiel), recorders, ukulele, drums and other percussion instruments. They also learn about music fundamentals, such as music terminology, musical ‘form,’ and music theory.
Additionally, students listen to, respond to, and discuss music from a wide variety of music genres. Students at all grade levels work on improvisation skills, and students in grades 3-5 work on more formal music composition skills, as well. Students in Grades 3-5 earn ‘karate belts’ in recorder as part of the Recorder Karate program. Students in grades 3-5 also learn to play the ukulele. Note: Each student in grades 3-5 needs to have his/her own recorder for music class.
Our music curriculum at Royle includes Quaver (online curriculum), MusicPlayOnline (online curriculum), World Music Drumming, GamePlan, Orff, Mallet Madness, Jon Madin’s Marimba Music, MusicExpress Magazine, Essential Elements Music Class (online resource), MusicK8 magazine, TheSingingClassroom, First Steps in Music (K-1), and so much more!
