2nd Grade Music
The three 2nd Grade classes will combine to perform a MUSICAL on Thursday, March 2 at 2:00 PM in the COMMON ROOM!
NOVEMBER 2016:
One of the favorite 'activities' in our music room is ANYTHING that has to do with the bunnies on TheSingingClassroom.com! The bunnies often demonstrate how we need to dance or use rhythm sticks. The kids LOVE those bunnies. A popular tune this fall has been "DRAW A BUCKET OF WATER." Here is 2-H performing this song on November 18, 2016:
SEPTEMBER 2016:
The month of SEPTEMBER has been a BUSY one in the music room! Here are some of our highlights:
We opened the year with a drumming circle, where students played patterns, drummed their name, and repeated patterns that others played. They also sang the song Funga Alafia and drummed while they sang the song.
Other songs we've been singing in September:
Hello There
Hello, Everyone
Quaver 5 (rules)
Welcome to Music
Stinky Pirates
Royle School Song
Black Socks
Take Me Out to the Ballgame
Goodbye Song
Happy Birthday
Whisper, Talk, Shout and Sing
She'll Be Comin' Round the Mountain
I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly
On "Orff" instruments, they have been working on:
Yabba Dabba Doo (Can You Click Your Tongue?)
I Wanna CCC
Go, Go, Go
99 O'Clock
Charlie Over the Ocean
Traffic Lights (Red Light, Red Light, What do you say?)
*On Orff instruments, students have learned the terms "pentatonic" (5-note scale), Bordun (repeated pattern throughout a song), and Ostinato (repeated pattern).
We have also reviewed the terms piano, forte, presto, largo, strong and weak beats, and have worked on 'finding the beat' through many activities with small instruments and using the Quaver interactive lessons.
