Bel Canto Purple

Auditioned, Advanced treble choir

Bel Canto Purple is an auditioned, advanced level choral ensemble for treble voices, mostly grades 10-12. Bel Canto Purple has worked with artists including Alice Parker, Tara Erraught, Janai Brugger, Philippe Sly, Wendy Bloom, Molly Quinn, and Monica Swartout-Bebow. In 2014, they received a grant through the Ann Arbor Public Schools Education Foundation to study music featuring female composers and poets. Students will study music written for treble voices from a variety of musical time periods and styles. Prospective students must display advanced music-reading skills, vocal technique, rehearsal technique, and initiative. Bel Canto Purple combines with advanced members of Cantare to form a mixed choir, Chorale, which performs at concerts and festivals. Members are strongly encouraged to participate in Solo & Ensemble or Honors Choir.

Year long course (1.0 credits). Auditions held every spring. Contact Mr. Lorenz to set-up an audition.
