Honors Choir

7-8-9 Regional & State Honors Choir Information (available to students in grade 9)

Interested 9th grade students can sign up to participate in the MSVMA Regional Honors Choir, held in October.  At Regional Honors Choir, students join a large 100+ person choir to rehearse two songs and give a final performance.  Based on their audition, students may be selected for one of two 7-8-9 State Honors Choirs: SSA (treble choir) or TTB (tenor- bass choir).  The State Honors Choirs hold three full-day rehearsals from November-January (each on a Saturday) and a final performance in Grand Rapids, as part of the Michigan Music Conference.  Students submit recorded video auditions for consideration.

HS Regional, State, & All-State Honors Choir (available to students in grades 9-12)

The MSVMA Honors Choir program provides opportunities for interested singers in grades 9-12 to collaborate with other top students from around the state in Regional, State, & All-State Honors Choirs. Selected singers prepare the music on their own, with the assistance of practice files.

Students audition for Regional Honors Choir via video submission in the Fall.  Each video is evaluated and given a numeric rating.  Based on their received rating, the top 170 students are selected for Regional Honors Choir, which occurs in December.  At Regional Honors Choir, students are assessed for readiness and may audition for the State & All-State Honors Choirs.  The top 300 students, state-wide, are selected for the State Honors Choirs (three, by voicing: SSAA, TTBB, or SATB), which occur in January.  The top 80 SATB students, state-wide, are selected for the All-State Honors Choir, which occurs in May.
