Emerson's National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA) Chapter
Everyone is welcome! Executive Board includes 2 seats for On-campus Graduate Students & 2 seats for Speech@Emerson Graduate Students.
The NSSLHA:
Provides the opportunity for students to take part in communication disorders related activities on a local, regional, and national level.
Encourages professional interests among Emerson students in the study of normal and disordered human communication behavior.
Provides aid and assistance within the College as well as to local organizations in the areas of speech, hearing, language, and behavior disorders.
Bilingual Language and Literacy Investigative and Networking Group (BLLING)
Everyone is welcome! The Executive Board includes two seats for On-campus Graduate Students, and two seats for Speech@Emerson Graduate Students.
The group is dedicated to:
Conducting and discussing current research topics,
Offering education to teachers, speech-language pathologists, and other related professionals on bilingual language and literacy issues, and
Supporting the community through hosting family literacy workshops and other events aimed at increasing awareness of bilingual and biliteracy issues.
The Graduate Student Association (GSA) is dedicated to advancing the goals, objectives, and interests of graduate students. The GSA serves as a liaison between graduate students and the College community, providing students with a base for social interaction, professional friendships, and contacts. All on-campus graduate students* are members of the GSA and are invited to attend events and meetings (*Online and low-residency students can contact the Office of Graduate Studies to find out how they can become members of the GSA).

Part of the Division of Student Affairs, the Intercultural Student Affairs staff provides support & resources for LGBTQIA+ students.

Per the National NSSLHA website, "NSSLHA to ASHA Conversion: Join National NSSLHA for the last two years of your master’s or doctoral program to be eligible for $225 off the initial dues and fees of ASHA membership and certification through the NSSLHA to ASHA Conversion Discount."
The following organizations have been recommended by Emerson College CSD staff and faculty as spaces where our graduate students and alumni may wish to get involved, with the goals of networking and engaging in the broader SLP community:
ASHA Student to Empowered Professional Mentoring Program -Student to Empowered Professional (S.T.E.P.) is an online mentoring program where mentees and mentors communicate to address a short- or long-term goal via the Chronus mentoring platform, e-mail, phone, text, or social media.
Speech Pathologists for Compassion and Social Justice This group is primarily for practicing speech paths, retired speech paths, and students preparing to enter our field but is open to anyone interested in the intersection between communication, compassion, and social justice. In addition to raising awareness about all aspects of social justice, this site is about increasing empathy, compassion, and generating “mega-love” for the human race and the planet. This is a space where people can feel free to come to learn, share what empowers and challenges them, make mistakes, listen to other’s points of view, and question ourselves and each other in a way that respects the dignity of every human being.
Decolonize SLP Fostering meaningful, ongoing collaboration to extinguish biases, stereotypes and generalizations & improve outcomes for the populations we serve.
National Black Association for Speech-Language and Hearing (NBASLH) - The mission of the National Black Association for Speech-Language and Hearing is to maintain a viable mechanism through which the needs of Black professionals, students and individuals with communication disorders can be met.
American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education (AAHHE) The American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education (AAHHE) is an agent of change for improving education, thus enabling Hispanic students to fully participate in a diverse society.
Bilingual Speech Language Pathologists This group was created for Bilingual Speech Language Pathologists to share their expertise in working with bilingual children and adults. Monolingual SLPs seeking advice on how to work with bilingual clients are welcome and encouraged to join.
ASHA Multicultural Constituency Group - students will find all of the minoritized constituency groups (NBASLH, Hispanic Caucus, Asian Pacific Islander SLH Caucus, etc.). The MCCGs are allied/related professional organizations that are independent of ASHA.
S.I.S.T.A.s. Inc. (Sisters In Speech Therapy and Audiology) SISTAs, Inc. is a SISTAhood! A community of minority Speech Pathologists and Audiologists.This is where we highlight and celebrate each other! (Facebook Group) or go to their webpage sistasinc.com
