Course access begins on 8/18/2025 and live classes begin on 9/1/2025
Students should confirm with an SSA which plan of study they are pursuing and which classes to register for. In preparation for this conversation with Student Success, you may review both tracks and their expectations under Curriculum Planning.
Speech@Emerson does not offer custom plans of study for applied graduate coursework. Students pursuing applied graduate coursework are required to abide by the plan of study breakdowns provided by Student Success upon confirmation of a selected track.
These dates will be shared by Student Success via email and posted on the S@E Academic Calendar.
Note: Students may receive emails from other Emerson offices that include deadlines not specific to Speech@Emerson. For example, the Registrar’s Office sends registration notices to all students across degree levels and programs. To confirm the correct registration date for Speech@Emerson, please refer to the Speech@Emerson-specific Academic Calendars or reach out to Speech@Emerson Student Success.
Different types of registration holds at Emerson College are outlined at the Registrar's website. If there's a hold on your account when you look in myEmerson, reach out to the "owner" of that hold on this list if you need more information on how to get that hold cleared. Plan ahead! It can take several days to get holds cleared and you don't want to miss registration.
Be sure to review and sign the Student Agreement. If the agreement isn’t signed prior to registration, a registration hold will be placed on your account. Typically, the Student Agreement becomes available to sign a few weeks before registration opens. If it's not accessible when you first check, return back to the page every few days.
Several days prior to registration, course schedules will be viewable on myEmerson. You may use this time to browse course schedules and plan proactively for course section days/times.
As you plan your course schedule, please consider a holistic approach and be mindful of the following:
Our most successful students dedicate 10-20 hours per class per week outside of their live session meetings. This time commitment may vary per class and student.
To maintain an intimate class environment, Speech@Emerson strives to offer sections with no more than 15 or, in some cases, 10 students. Remain as flexible as possible in your schedule as section availability is first come, first serve.
Live sessions are typically offered with start times of either 10:00am ET, 6:30pm ET, or 8:30pm ET.
As a reminder, Speech@Emerson cannot accommodate class conflicts with work schedules due to the variety of preferences and time zone considerations.
To arrange the best possible schedule, we encourage students to:
Register immediately at their listed appointment time.
Have multiple options and remain flexible going into registration.
Communicate scheduling needs with their employer.
If an ideal section is full, we recommend students:
Register for the next best available option for all required courses.
Communicate scheduling needs with their support system to identify possible solutions.
Continue to monitor myEmerson for potential changes in section availability.
Reach out to Student Success as they are a resource and thought partner to navigate any road blocks.
Please see below for guidance on how to complete registration.
Student Success is your point of contact for any and all registration questions, comments, or concerns. SSAs will assist you and liase with the proper personnel. It is department policy that registration-related requests are not made directly to course facilitators. Requests made directly to facilitators will not be considered.
You can reach your registration page by going to emerson.edu/students > Registration, and clicking Add or Drop Classes. You can also get there by going to register.emerson.edu.
Students may use this resource as a full guide on how to register.
For any additional guidance or questions, students should reach out to their SSA.
What Is the Waitlist?
Registration is first come, first served. Because incoming student numbers fluctuate, a limited number of sections will be opened at the start of registration which is why we have a structured waitlist process. Using the waitlist allows us to gradually open sections, avoid unnecessary closures, and ensure all students are placed in their required courses as enrollment is finalized. Being placed on the waitlist is a normal and expected part of the registration process.
If a course you need is full, submit a Waitlist Request Form to be added to the course. Submitting a request ensures your needs are considered as we finalize course schedules.
Eligibility Requirements
To submit a Waitlist Request Form, the following must be true:
There are no available seats in the required course. Be sure to exhaust all available section options that fit your schedule before submitting a request.
The course is required for your plan of study during the current registration term. If you're unsure whether the course applies to your term, check your ITE or contact your Enrollment Specialist.
You have completed all registration eligibility steps. This includes submitting required onboarding documents, resolving any holds, and completing time-sensitive forms such as the Student Agreement.
You have not already submitted a request for the same course. Please submit only one request per course. Duplicate submissions may delay processing.
How the Waitlist Process Works
Complete the Waitlist Request form. Read the instructions carefully before submitting.
Submit one form total for all courses you need to be waitlisted for. You can request up to six courses (Applied and/or Foundational) in the same form.
Come prepared with your section preferences. You’ll be asked to select your preferred sections for each course. The form does not include course schedules— please review the schedule before submitting so you only choose sections that are offered.
Allow at least one week for review before following up. You’ll receive a confirmation email after submitting the form with your responses. Being on the waitlist does not guarantee section preference placement; it depends on course availability and scheduling logistics.
You may include a note if there’s helpful context to share (e.g., a known scheduling conflict with other courses). While we review all notes, submitting them does not guarantee accommodation. For formal or disability-related accommodations, please contact Student Accessibility Services (SAS) directly at sas@emerson.edu.
Key Registration Reminders
Please do not register for courses that aren’t part of your plan of study. This takes up seats other students may need. Need help identifying the right courses? Check your ITE (Intent to Enroll) or contact Student Success.
Once you’re registered for a section, changes will only be made if there is a valid and documented reason. Be thoughtful and accurate when submitting your preferences.
If a class time overlaps with your placement schedule: connect with your placement site first to explore options. If no resolution is possible, contact Student Success. Reminder: class attendance must be prioritized.
If you’re waitlisted, your billing or financial aid status may not immediately reflect your final schedule. We recommend:
Checking with Financial Aid or Student Accounts for up-to-date information.
Monitoring your account for any changes.
