Registration for Fall semester begins July 8th for returning students and July 15 for new students
The course CD657: Immersion Activities - Clinical and Academic Explorations prepares you for your first community placement. It includes summative experiences for academic courses, application of clinical learning, and preparation for community placement. You will receive clinical instruction from Immersion Support Specialists and engage in reflective practice.
This course is offered each term of the year and will run over the span of a few days, typically Thursday through Saturday of the scheduled week.
You must complete this course prior to your first community placement.
Please consult the Plans of Study to see when Immersion would fall in your course sequence.
The specific dates will be provided by the Student Success team at least six months in advance of the course. Students will also receive information in the term in which this course runs for your given plan of study to help you prepare. Students will receive access to course sites and digital materials in approximately Week 6 of the semester you will take Immersion.
Format
Immersion is the in-person component of the online program. Students come together in Boston and explore the campus as well as experience what it might be like to work with clients in future clinical practicum courses. Students will engage in a variety of events designed to activate prior knowledge, practice skills, and reflect on your experiences so far in the program.
Requirements
To attend CD 657: Immersion, or any in-person learning experience, you need to have completed all required CastleBranch clearances including immunizations, background checks, and HIPAA/OSHA eLearning modules. (This last component is part of your coursework in CD 601.) These clearances are also required to participate in your upcoming clinical practicum courses.
Attendance
Because this is a course in your plan of study, attendance for the duration of the event is mandatory. If you are unable to take part in a component of this course as a result of accommodations, please inform the Advising Team at the start of the semester. Other absences are unlikely to be approved, but may be considered on a case by case basis.
All information subject to change or update as determined by the Communication Sciences and Disorders Department and/or Emerson College.
Below is a sample timeline of Immersion tasks and requirements that must be completed prior to your Immersion course. You will receive an updated/date specific copy of this via email and in your Canvas course site. Please direct all Immersion questions to immersion@emerson.edu and include a member of our Student Success Team.
