A solar storm starts with an eruption of super-hot gas travelling out from the sun at speeds of up to 5m miles an hour. Electrically charged particles hit earth’s atmosphere 20 to 30 hours later, causing electromagnetic havoc.

What is a Solar storm ? Flare>radiation>mass
A solar storm is an electrified gas cloud that erupts from the surface of the sun into space. Scientifically, a solar storm is called a Coronal Mass Ejection. In a solar storm, the solar flare comes first, then a radiation storm, and then the coronal mass ejection (CME).

Electromagnetic storm may destroy transformers
in power grid lines, would need years to manufacture and replace them. Communication satellites may fail as well as mobile cellphones and related GPS.
