Vernon Reservoir

2 hrs

I haven't been here, but there are 11 free camping sites south and east of the reservior. Only hand-powered boats are allowed on the lake.

Fishing in the reservoir for stocked rainbow and brown trout, but is best early and late because the fish can see you otherwise. There are outhouses, but no water.

The lake is primarily used for irrigation water for area farmers, and can suffer large drawdowns in late summer especially during drought years.

I read that the season is April to December, but I doubt they have a way to keep you out otherwise.

To get there head west on I80 and take exit 99 and head south on highway 36 through Tooele. Go about 34 miles south of Tooele and turn right on Benmore Road.

Go five miles on this dirt road and then turn left on Greenjacket Road. Go .7 miles and then turn right for 2 miles.

You can also get there from Redwood Road and the 4-way in Lehi head west on SR-73 for 21 miles and turn left at the fork onto Old Pony Express Route for 14 miles to SR-36 and turn left. Drive 6.50 miles south and turn right at the sign pointing you towards Vernon Reservoir. Drive another 7 miles on the main gravel/dirt road to the reservoir.
