Fort Buenaventura

½ hr $

Fort Buenaventura is a close and nice place to camp, but like the other Weber County campgrounds, a little pricey. It is $18 per site for up to 8 people, 2 tents and two vehicles. They charge extra if there are more vehicles, people or tents, so you may want to consolidate into larger vehicles and tents. The sites are first come first serve except the group sites are by reservation, so you need to get there early some nights to get a site. I would also call them before and make sure there are no major activities going on such as a camporee. Also, go to the office and pay for your site before setting up camp. We had a bad experience with that.

Fort Buenaventura is open April through November. There are some historical things to see there as well. They have a tour for another dollar. See http://www.co.weber.ut.us/parks/fortb/ for more information. To get there take the 24th street exit from I15 in Ogden and go east a few blocks and turn right onto Avenue A until you see a sign pointing left. There are some nice isolated camping areas back in the trees to the right as you go in and more open areas on the left.

You can also play in the Weber River near here or float down on tubes to 23rd street where there is a nice swimming hole. Also the Centennial Trail goes through here and is great for biking. You can bike one way up to Riverdale and the other way down the Weber River and then up the Ogden River to Rainbow Gardens.
