Rudy Flat

½ hr + 2 hr hike

This is a pretty, green, moderate hike up North Canyon. Rudy Flat is about 4 or 5 miles up depending on where you start. There is only one small place to camp before Rudy Flat, right at the trail head. Rudy flat is a large open area big enough for several groups. Go east on 1800 South (changes to Mueller Park Blvd) in Bountiful to Bountiful Blvd and go south to Canyon Creek Road (about 2 miles), then go east until the pavement ends. The trail head is 1.3 miles up. You can park here or you can drive up the dirt road. There is small place to park before the pipe line and a couple large places after. The last good place has a yellow pipeline marker sticking up on the left. Past that, there are very deep ruts and shouldn’t be attempted without a jeep. Anyway, you will see the trail head and head on up. It's a fairly easy trail.

Just a little ways before you get to Rudy Flat there is a trail that goes up a steep incline to the right. From up on that ridge you can see a nice view down into city creek canyon. Go back down and and continue up the main trail. For a map see flag MUE008 at http://www.trimbleoutdoors.com/ViewTrip/16951 . Also see another more detailed write up at http://blog.myscoutstuff.org/2010/05/backpacking-to-rudys-flat/ . You can also park outside the gate at Mueller Park and get to it that way. It would be a little longer, about 5 miles total or so. For more photos of the trail see: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=380934
