Steed Creek

10 min + ¼ hr hikeT

This is a fairly small camping are by a creek, probably good for about eight or nine people. It is close for a quick getaway. It is also near the trail-head to Steed and Hornet Creek canyons for further adventure. To get there follow the directions to the parking area for Pretty Valley or Davis Creek. Right across the parking lot on the left (north east) you will see a red gate. Go around the gate and follow that trail up a short incline and you will come to a fenced area that you will need to go around. Follow the easy jeep trail to the right (Bonneville Shoreline Trail) for about 1/2 mile and you will come to a fork. Go either way, but the one to the left that goes past a locked gate is easier. Follow the trail to the mouth of the canyon and the camping area it on the right just before the creek. I don't know how much it is used, but you may want to send someone up early to reserve it, since there aren't many other places to camp there. The trail to Steed and Hornet Creek canyon is just a couple hundred feet north of the creek. I hiked up the trail about 1/2 a mile and only found a smaller area just across a small bridge where perhaps 4 people could camp, after clearing a few branches.

You could also get there by driving south on the firebreak road from the mouth of Farmington Canyon. But the road gets pretty rough.
