November Unrelenting

Saint Paul, 6 November 2011

There's no sugar-coating the gray skies or the broken

promise of sunshine. There's no wind-break to deflect

the coarseness of November's neck-stabbing gusts

Summer's heavy headed sunflowers have long been

jerked to oblivion like they'd been placed on a batting tee

then met the business end of a blunt instrument

The genetic directive is unrelenting and abusive

for all species – not just humans
