Dog Days

Saint Paul, 23 January 2006

For Steve Rowe

Since the dawn of matrimony

You've been packing

Or unpacking

Cardboard boxes

Should living beget mythology

Yours will be awaiting Pod delivery

At light-break come Saturday

Between laundry shifts

You'll hump boxes in or out

Surely by Monday next

In the dog days of July

Driveway Pods always arrive

Or depart faster than boxes

With jet packs

Me? I don't pack

I take the garbage out

And separate recyclables

One day I'll pack in a hurry

Clothes strewn about

Left a note reminding me

Where to send the checks
