Solitude, Utah

Saint Paul, 30 April 2006

for Maia

Solitude is deemed desirable

in unacknowledged polls

Burrowed in the Wasatch range

is a secret prison brimming

with well-fed white people

Quickly they forget the terror

of their own respiration

Back home they recall nothingness

as a profound comfort

At daybreak TNT charges

trigger pulverizing avalanches

blanketing the unsavory

Who, left with no transponder

cannot avert suffocation
