Seven Inches New Snow

Saint Paul, 4 January 2006

Blowing down the eastern slope of the Continental Divide

Streamlines flowing below the ice to the Yellowstone

Billowing over snow-crusted prairie stubble

In a flurry of electrons to my In-Box

Seven inches new snow at Bridger

Now it's time to slough my skin

Crystallize to a snow flake

Hitch a ride to Red Lodge

I'll take up residence

In Hellroaring Creek

High in the pass

On that ancient

Patch of snow

That doesn't

Melt
