Sundew's Deed

Saint Paul, 15 December 2005

A fishwife of fine-spun felicity

Her arms like well worn spatulas

Secrete to her cilia a booby trap

A snare for imperial dragon flies

To smother in mucilage

A sundew's deed is to

Asphyxiate and digest

Notes:

The sundew is a plant with hair-covered leaves

that produce a sweet-smelling, sticky substance.

Insects are trapped on the leaves and eventually

die. Their nutrients are absorbed by the plant.
