April 2019 Star Party

This past Saturday night, April 27, 2019, the Bartlesville Astronomy Society met at Bob and Glenda’s for an ice cream party and Star party—can’t beat the mix. Ten members from the adult group and the youth group were represented with multiple telescopes, binoculars, and a camera or two. And of course, ice cream, cake, brownies, and toppings were also present.

A big thanks to Bob and Glenda for hosting the party and thanks to all who brought deserts and eating paraphernalia. And thanks to those who brought viewing paraphernalia too!

Probably the best picture of the night will go to Rick Buck and his picture of the Whirlpool Galaxy - stay tuned for a picture once they are combined, collated, and stapled. Kudos to John G and John B for chasing the Leo Trio M65, M66 & NGC3628. All three are also close enough together that with a wide enough field of view they can all be seen in the same eyepiece view. If you manage that, keep in mind that you are seeing the light from half a trillion stars that are 35 million light years away! (Credit to VirtualAstronomy).

Can you find these three?
