Ken Willcox: The Birth of an Eclipse Chaser

Presenter - Daryl Doughty

Daryl Doughty and Ken Willcox first met in the mid 60's, when they both started working for the Bureau of Mines Petroleum Station in Bartlesville. They quickly realized that they had a common interest in astronomy. By the late 60's, shifts in educational plans and career interests sent them in different directions, but eventually both returned to Bartlesville and they renewed their friendship and their common interest in astronomy.

In February 1979, Daryl received a call from Ken, proposing that they take a trip north, into Canada, to observe a total eclipse of the Sun. They loaded up Ken's car, and along with a friend from Tulsa, headed north. Daryl's program and slide show this month will describe their adventure and show the results of Ken's eclipse photography.
