Event Summary 2014

Presentation at Wesleyan Christian School Jan. 16:

Steve Plank organized this event, along with Jan Boomer at the school. Joyce Ritchie did a presentation inside for 4th and 5th graders. This was followed by telescope viewing focusing on the winter stars and constellations like Orion.

Sunfest May 30-June 1:

The Astronomy Club had their booth at Sunfest Friday afternoon from 3 p.m.-8:30 p.m., on Saturday from 10 a.m-8:30 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This event was coordinated by Karen Cruce and Steve Plank along with Sunfest. The Club had at least two people per shift. We were located along the popular south walkway and had lots of visitors. A number of people signed up to get our newsletter email.

Storytelling and Stargazing at Mike Woods’ home Oct. 18:

We had an evening of storytelling (mostly) around a fire in Mike's fire pit with about two dozen people attending. This event was organized by John Grismore, Fran Stallings and Mike Woods. Although clouds limited telescopic observing—there was a lot of high haze--our stargazing/storytelling evening was great fun. People brought their own lawn chairs to put around the fire and listen to Fran Stallings and others tell many entertaining stories. During breaks in the clouds Mike Woods pointed out constellations. We had hot dogs and s’mores roasted over the fire and other snacks. Here is a link to a YouTube video of a time-lapse taken during the event.
