October 1, 2012, Bartlesville Astronomical Society Business Meeting held at the upstairs meeting room of the Bartlesville Public Library.

TREASURER’S REPORT for September, 2012:

Beginning Balance, 9-1-12: $1114.16

Expense: 9-1-12 Liability Insurance Premium

to Seabury and Smith $ 320.00

Income: New member, Brandon Marler $ 20.00

Ending Balance, 9-30-12: $ 814.16

Club discussed briefly thoughts on adding other membership class(es) of couples and/or family memberships. November is dues renewal month for all members, including members who have joined in the past year with an anniversary month other than November. Prorated dues will be assessed for those members. BAS currently has 38 memberships and 3 student memberships.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS:

October is officer election month. Daryl Doughty introduced the slate of proposed officers to be voted on for two year terms with the exception of Treasurer, who was elected in October, 2011, to a two year term. A motion was proposed by Steve Plank for the whole slate of proposed officers and directors to be nominated, seconded by Arden Strycker, and unanimously voted into office by the club members(18).

BY-LAWS:

By-Laws rewriter Arden Strycker presented an outline of the main points and changes to the proposed new By-Laws to be voted on at the next meeting to be held in November, 2012. Proposed By-Laws will be sent by e-mail or by USPS to all current members to review by at least two weeks before the proposed vote at the November meeting.

PROGRAM PRESENTATION:

Virgil Reese presented an informative and lively talk entitled “Nucleosynthesis: The Universe as a Chemical Factory” about the origins and proportions of the chemical elements since the Big Bang.
