Langland Bay Golf Club Great War Memorial Plaque is Unveiled

Mr Clive Henson, Chairman of Langland Bay Golf Club reports that the club has installed a Plaque to the memory of Lemuel Philip Ace, a Professional Golfer and Groundsman at the club, before he joined the army over 100 years ago.

The club is searched for relatives of Lemuel Philip Ace, who was born in Mumbles in 1884 and lived with his wife, Catherine Elizabeth and children at 3, Forgefield Terrace, Norton, Mumbles. His parents John and Mary, of 8 Gower Place, Mumbles, had several daughters and three other sons and a son-in-law serving with the colours.

Mr Clive Henson has reported, 'On 27th March 2015 the relatives of Mr Ace were welcome to the club for the unveiling of the plaque. This was presented by the members of the club and is dedicated to all those who lost their lives in both wars'.

It is situated on the outside wall, to the left of the main entrance of the clubhouse and overlooking the course where Lemuel would have worked all those years ago. Who knows how far he would have risen in the golfing world, if the Great War had not intervened.
