The library was always our first stop

By Sandy Baddick

(née Symmons)

I always think fondly of Oystermouth library and I have been going there for 60 years. When I was very young Saturday mornings were always set aside for our trip to the Mumbles with my dad, sister, Carol and Bunty the dog and the library was always our first stop.

We would sit in the Children’s section and spend time deciding which books to take home. When I was small I used to think that the two penny fines, paid the staff wages.

I remember Miss Nash who was the librarian many years ago. I was very much in awe of her and thought that all the books were actually hers! They were such happy days and I still use the library to this very day.

My lovely dad taught us a great love of books and this love has stayed with me all my life. Over the years, I must have read thousands.

Oystermouth Library is a joy to visit. The Staff are always so helpful and go to great lengths to find the book that I want.
