Principal's Message from: Rocchina Antunes

Welcome to a brand-new school year! We have arrived at the mid-point of Semester One and we are delighted to have met our new, wonderful Grade 9 students and all other new students who have joined the St. Jean de Brebeuf school community. To our returning Grade 10 and 11 students, we are happy to have you back and we look forward to an exciting and fun-filled year with you. Thank you parents for the continued support of your children and of our school staff.

It is a privilege and an honour to be part of the St. Jean de Brebeuf community. As I take time to reflect on the first half of the semester, I am thankful for all the contributions that staff, students, parents and our extended community partners have made in making St. Jean de Brebeuf CHS a magnificent place to work, learn and grow. We have accomplished so much together. Our newsletter provides you with a sneak peak into the magnificence of our school, our educational programming, co-curricular clubs and councils and our faculty and students. Boy, am I ever proud of this school and community!

As we continue our 2019-2020 school year let me review the essence of our school and what we value:

School Mission Statement: "St. Jean de Brebeuf Catholic High School is a Learning Community called to educate the mind and nurture the soul with Jesus Christ as inspiration. Success in academics, development of character and dedication to service will be achieved with support from home, Church and school."

School Motto: "Eruditio Mentis. Animae Nutrimen." - Educating the Mind. Nurturing the Soul.

What Do We Value? As a Catholic Learning Community, we value and embrace the diverse gifts and talents of all our students and we endeavour to provide a caring educational environment where students can excel academically, persevere when faced with challenges and thrive in an environment that supports the development of the mind, body and spirit. We are an exemplary catholic community with a focus on academic success. We also offer diverse program pathways, an extensive co-curricular program through clubs, councils and athletics and we value our parents as partners.

We welcome our new staff to St. Jean de Brebeuf:

"Christian hope is a humble and strong virtue that supports us, so that we do not drown under the many difficulties we face in life." (Pope Francis). It is important to remain hopeful in the midst of challenge, adversity and change. Hope allows us to believe in possibility, in our strength and resolve to make things better for ourselves and others. Hope is our guiding light to act with kindness and compassion and to believe in our potential to do great things. With hope, there is no room for judgement, only love.

Hope to see you around the school.
