Business DEPARTMENT

The Business Department would like to welcome Mr. S. Peticca and Mr. S. De Benedictis to our team for the 2019-2020 school year.

Here is a snapshot of some events that are taking place this semester.

CPA Ontario Presentation

A representative from the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario visited Mr. S. De Benedictis’s Grade 12 Financial Accounting Principles class on Wednesday October 10. Students were informed about pathways to the CPA Designation. Also students were made aware of the Universities that are accredited with their organization, the different careers in accounting and various industry leaders who hold a CPA Designation. Mr. S. De Benedictis’s class enjoyed the presentation. Due to a scheduling conflict CPA Ontario will present to Mr. S. Colangelo’s Grade 11 Financial Accounting Fundamentals class at a later date in the semester.

Nippissing University Stock Market Challenge!

Once again students taking the Financial Securities Course (IDC 4U1) will be participating in Nippising University’s Stock Market Challenge. This semester's competition is taking place between October 21, 2019 - November 30, 2019. The competition is open to all Ontario high school students and it is a web-based educational tool where students are given $500,000 USD in ‘virtual money’ and they are able to simulate managing a portfolio of buying and selling stocks and other investments at real time prices. Good luck to Mr. Colangelo’s student investors!

The DECA club at St. Jean de Brebeuf is looking for new members. If interested please see Mr. S. Colangelo or Mr. S. Peticca for more information.

What is DECA?

DECA is an organization for high schoolers to compete regionally, provincial, and Internationally and receive exposure to the business world. Students will compete in one of the industry categories including:

Marketing and Sales
Hospitality and Tourism
Communication and Technology
Finance and Accounting
Business Management and Administration

Joining DECA helps to develop students knowledge of business practices and information, and speaking and acting in a professional environment. Our students in the St. Jean de Brebeuf chapter will compete with other high schools in York Region. If they qualify students will continue to compete with all high schools in the province of Ontario. After which the top students will qualify to compete at the International level.
