Grade 9 and 10 Sciences are mandatory in junior grades and students have the ability to choose the senior science courses that interest them or that are needed in their future programs. Some of the senior sciences that are offered are Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Environmental Science. There is the academic or applied course type for the junior sciences and university or college for the senior sciences. Please make sure you are in the right course type in order for you to be successful. Science is taught through a variety of different ways: Power-point presentations, note taking, teachers performing demonstrations to get students to critically think before the material is taught, students performing and engaging in labs, virtual learning environment with the use of I-pads and Chrome-books using Google tools such as APPS and teachers setting up their classes on either D2L or Google classroom. Labs are an essential part in a science classroom both in the junior and senior levels. Students will work in lab groups to perform the lab, create observation tables and discuss their results. Our science classes incorporate a variety of different science experiments which are lab driven and hands-on.
Mrs. Pugliese-Trentadue’s Grade 11 Biology class dissected an Earthworm. They were given the opportunity to examine the differences between vertebrates and invertebrates.
Come and join us in the Science Department on Wednesday November 121th for St. Jean de Brebeuf Open House. You will have an opportunity to speak to Science teachers and students in senior level classes. There will be a variety of different labs setup and equipment for you to look at and ask questions about. This will allow you to experience science at Brebeuf.
