Chaplaincy and Peer ministry

This year’s opening celebration of the Eucharist took place on September 17th.

Our celebrant was Fr. Antonello Murgia (St. Clare of Assisi Associate Pastor). Our beautiful music was provided by Ms. R. Gasbarro and some of her vocal students. Many Peer Ministry members and student volunteers assisted with the procession, altar serving and readings. Thank you to the staff members who assisted as Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist. Our school prayer concluded the mass. We were reminded of the words of our patron saint, Jean de Brebeuf:

May God grant us gentleness, serenity, love for all,

Openness to every opportunity for good,

And patience in times of trial.

May our confidence be placed in You,

May our single endeavor be to give ourselves to Your work,

And to be faithful to You.

On September 30th we recognized Orange Shirt Day. The purpose of this day was to promote awareness about the detrimental effects residential schools had on numerous Indigenous children. This date was chosen because it was around this time of year that the Indigenous children were abruptly taken from their homes and placed in residential schools. Peer Ministry council members sold jumbo freezies (thanks to KISKO) to raise funds for the Rescue Lake Simcoe Coalition. Approximately $190.00 will be donated to this worthy cause.

Our annual Thanksgiving Food Drive was September 25th - October 10th. We thank the SJB Community for their generous support. A special thank you goes out to Ms. F. Racco's homeroom class for their outstanding contribution of non-perishable food items to the Vaughan Food Bank.
