BASIC UNITS OF LIFE: READING AND WRITING

In this day and age, when technology is taking over, we forget that books are the simplest form of literacy and that text comes in all forms including magazines, graphic novels, and newspapers. Students who read daily are better speakers and writers. We encourage all our students, to stop everything and read for 15 minutes per day; who knows, they might even realize that they like it more than they thought.

Our Grade 9 and 10 students are being prepared for OSSLT not only through daily activities but also through the CPT's for each of those courses. Our Junior students will be immersed in various types of writing to assist them with the expectations of the Senior courses.

We are in full swing with the Native Studies courses in our grade 11 curriculum. This course promotes Native issues as well as literacy skills and critical thinking skills through the authentic material. Thank you to all our teachers for putting so much work and time into developing this course. This course allows students to integrate literature and history.

Our Grade 12's are busy working on building their skills for university and college entrance / preparation and are being encouraged to think outside the box as they read material that focuses on life and social expectations.

We are happy that all our courses are integrating Catholicity and technology as well to better prepare students to soar beyond the confines of the classroom.

We wish everyone good luck this semester.
