English lessons during the English Time day are based on a real world basis –because English is a key to the world. We study culture, geography, literature and much more using a range of stimulating materials and classroom activities.

The lesson plans required cooperative group work, inclusive projects and PBL activities to inspire our students own ideas. It’s certainly true that too often we give students answers to remember, rather than problems to solve”-quoted by Roger Lewin.

Projects that are carefully designed and prepared for each term also allow learners to apply multiple intelligences in completing them.

The project for the first term at INS Narcís Monturiol is about London. English Time students of 2nd ESO search for information of different landmarks of interest in London and explain it in front of other students. They also create a London skyline to be displayed. Working the artistic and cultural competences is also highly necessary in the secondary level, and with this project this objective comes true.

The contents of the project are tailored to the 2nd of ESO curriculum and the key competences we deal with are the following ones:

1) Linguistic and Audio-visual communicative competence:

They read, write, speak about London landmarks and create a small card with the most important facts

2) Information handling and digital competence:

Surf the Net to look for information about each monuments and comprehend the information

Use technological and informative tools in order to prepare an attractive presentation

3) Artistic and cultural competence:

Design and create the London landmarks silhouettes to display them at school creating a black skyline

4) Autonomy and decision taking competence:

Develop initiatives and find the essential information of each landmark

5) Learning to learn competence:

Apply strategic thinking, cooperation and self-evaluation skills
